I think this is the very first newsletter I have sent out to keep you in the loop! True, I have been quiet, perhaps for too long, but I didn’t know when would be a good moment to write down what was going on, as so many things happened one after the other.
I think I met most of you through Threads and some of you through Reddit. I have been quiet on both. Social media, or rather Meta, and I have some serious disagreements. Meta disabled my Threads accounts, twice even, without giving a reason. As I wanted to have Instagram and Threads linked, I started new accounts. Well, the first thing that happened was that all my comments were flagged as spam! It was a hard-learned lesson that we need to have our own space on the internet and in real life. And that’s exactly what I have been building!
SO! THE GOOD NEWS is that I finally have a website that is working, a website that is starting to attract visitors, and a webshop that is open and functional, where collectors can purchase what I have made. The first collection is about traditional architecture here in Malaysia.
These houses are modular, and I started with the main house. These houses are on stilts, so when the monsoons are at their heaviest, the houses survive. They usually stand in between the rice paddies and the road, which gives even more reason to have the house off the ground!
The next versions will be variations of the house with an added kitchen at the back and a veranda/porch at the front, and the typical long roof will be visible in all its majesty. The main houses, as I have them now, were for the poor, the workers, the farmers and those close to the land. The full house, the Rumah Kutai (the version from the state of Perak in Malaysia), was the rich man’s house. These were owned by landowners, traders, and those with money and bigger families.
But there is more!
I have also opened up custom commissions for individual wishes and collaborations for businesses! I can create hand-pulled prints for a huge variety of needs directly from your photos, or I can completely recreate a house and use that as the foundation for monotype prints.
