Impression Description
The traditional house is standing in warm brown colours with the light slightly on in front of green mountains. This attempt was to explore a wider use of colours. I can decide where the light comes from when the house still is digital, in this attempt I wanted to have the shadows of the house purple and see its effects. I also changed the order I layer colour on the gel plate compared to other prints. Usually, the darker colours go first, and the lighter behind it. In this case, I first did the lighter colour, keeping them transparent and then the darker colour behind it. Both approaches work, but for the sake of simplicity, I keep to layer first the dark and then the lighter colours behind iI am content with this print. The lights are on, but just a bit.

Unique (1/1) original hand-pulled layered monotype print
Medium:
Acrylic paint on paper printed, pressed and hand-pulled from a gel plate.
Sizes:
– Paper size A4, 21 × 29.7 cm (8.3 × 11.7 in).
– Art size 20.3 × 25.4 cm (8 × 10 in).
Paper: 100% cotton, acid-free, hot pressed, 300gsm, sourced from the EU. Hot-pressed paper is smooth to give the print a fine feel.
Authenticity: All art comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Art is signed, titled and dated below the artwork with pencil.
Series: This print is a part of the Landscape series. Parts of Malaysia have breathtaking limestone hills where these houses once stood. I am interested in creating landscapes to give the traditional houses a place to stand, a place to ground, a place you can go to. Here the house stands in its full right.
What is a monotype print?
A monotype is a type of print whereby the printmaker starts with a clean plate the paper is pressed on after the image is created, and ends with a clean plate after the paper is pulled from it. It is, therefore, impossible to create the same image twice as opposed to monoprints. With a monoprint, the plate the paper is pressed on has the image permanently created in it using different techniques. Then it is possible to reproduce identical prints in smaller limited editions (or just only one of course).
All the impressions I make are monotypes. The gel plate is clean so I will have to start anew to create the next impression. This ensures you always will have a unique print that nobody else has.
