Original (1/1) Monotype print by Daniel Arendzen, Two Houses Study #3 (2026)

Reduced price

This piece is a study piece that I made available. These study pieces are leading up to the series and were for me to learn from, experiment and explore different techniques and materials. The reduced price reflects the compromise between exploring how to create vs the final quality of the creation and how that is perceived.

Impression Description

The traditional houses are muted, darker and standing in the shadow of a setting sun. The skies turn purple and the hills are too. There is more happening on the ground with the road having a different colour than the earth around it. The trees are slowly fading in darkness too. This is the third study of the two houses in the Landscape series. In this impression I explored rougher brayer strokes without using any mask. It gives a harder and more demanding impression. I am unsure if the houses still are on our planet, or perhaps, something dystopian happened and we are looking into the future? This impression has a larger brother with matching style and colours.

Details:

Type of art:
Unique (1/1) original hand-pulled layered monotype print

Medium
:
Acrylic paint on paper printed, pressed and hand-pulled from a gel plate.

Sizes:
– Paper size A4, 21 × 29.7 cm (8.3 × 11.7 in).
– Art size 20.3 × 25.4 cm (8 × 10 in).

Paper: 100% cotton, acid-free, cold pressed, 300gsm, sourced from the EU. Cold-pressed paper is textured which gives the print a rougher and unique feel.

Authenticity: All art comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Art is signed, titled and dated below the artwork with pencil.

Series: This print is a part of the Landscape series. Parts of Malaysia have breathtaking limestone hills where these houses once stood. I am interested in creating landscapes to give the traditional houses a place to stand, a place to ground, a place you can go to. Here the house stands in its full right.

What is a monotype print?

A monotype is a type of print whereby the printmaker starts with a clean plate the paper is pressed on after the image is created, and ends with a clean plate after the paper is pulled from it. It is, therefore, impossible to create the same image twice as opposed to monoprints. With a monoprint, the plate the paper is pressed on has the image permanently created in it using different techniques. Then it is possible to reproduce identical prints in smaller limited editions (or just only one of course).

All the impressions I make are monotypes. The gel plate is clean so I will have to start anew to create the next impression. This ensures you always will have a unique print that nobody else has.

The artist & printmaker

Daniel Arendzen is the artist and printmaker who makes original works of art using traditional printmaking techniques with a modern twist in which he first recreates traditional houses digitally before transforming them into physical pieces. His primary objective is to (re)connect people with home through traditional architecture from all around the world. His current series are the Malaysian traditional houses.
