Title: Burning Caves Dimensions: 29.7 × 42 cm / 11.7 × 16.5 in
Medium: Acrylic on canvas, ready to frame
Collectors information:
I wanted fire that couldn’t escape — contained, pressured, held inside rock. I’d been to a cave recently and the concept took hold: what if the fire was inside, and the cave was what kept it there?
I built the entire surface with a brayer first — colour laid in broad textured passes, heat building from the centre outward. In the final stages I took palette knives and drove the cave walls in. The dark blocky forms at the base, the stalactite pressing down from above — those came last, and they changed the piece. The light didn’t get larger. It got more trapped.
At the right place, this piece generates its own gravity. The eye goes to the centre and stays there, held by the same pressure the cave exerts.
This is an original piece of art, including a signed certification of authenticity and no reproductions will be made from it.
By purchasing from small independent artists you invest in sustainable artistic practices now and in the future. That has more value than the piece itself.
